Should you review Hatchet 3? (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.

The main strengths of the film lie in the practical effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects in a lesser degree than others. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes in the movie.

The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher movie. It is witty and hilarious. There are instances of humor in the film which add humour to bloody action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is extremely small (reportedly one million dollars) the majority of locations used that are featured in the (click now to see weblog) movie are re-used locations from previous films in series. For example, the same boathouse was used twice in the film. A lot of the locations seem like they were reused from previous films from this series. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior installments in the series. It also offered lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by its cast members.
